KISSIMMEE, Fla. –

The game began with Osceola’s Lamont Finnie returning the opening kickoff 58 yards for a touchdown. Then things got worse for the Daytona Beach Thunder.

A pumped up Ghostriders (3-2) team took the Thunder (1-4) by the final score of 62-23.

Finnie finished with four touchdowns as Osceola handed Daytona Beach its worst loss in franchise history.

Daytona Beach would answer with a 35 yard touchdown pass to Cory McKinney to cut the Osceola lead to 7-6 – but that was as close as the Thunder would get for the remainder of the game.

Osceola brought in Quarterback Mario Fernandez at the goal-line and he plunged in from one-yard out for a 13-6 Ghostriders lead at 8:21 in the first.

Just one scrimmage-play later,  Daytona’s QB Lawrence McCloud was intercepted by Osceola’s James Smith to extend Osceola’s lead to 19-6.

Daytona could not get anything going the remainder of the half except for one field goal by Carlos Ojeda. The Thunder trailed at halftime 35-9 after managing just one stop on an interception by linebacker Joe Giddens.

To begin the third quarter the Thunder brought in back-up QB Tavares Woodley who would lead them to a promising start when he found Clinton Crump for a 17-yard touchdown strike to get within 35-16 at the 13:08 mark of the third.

However, Daytona’s good start to the second half was erased on Osceola Running Back Terrance Bunting’s 11-yard touchdown run to push the Osceola lead back out to 42-16.

Daytona Beach would manage just one more touchdown the rest of the game by star receiver Cory McKinney—A 17-yard strike from Woodley in the fourth quarter.

McKinney led Daytona with four receptions for 78 yards and two touchdowns. Barry Wagner had five receptions for 60 yards. The arena football great also had a touchdown called back in the game and had a minor foot injury in the second half.  “Offensively we have to score”, Wagner said. “We need to settle on one quarterback and get comfortable”.  Wagner was used primarily as a decoy tonight and looks forward to taking a more active role in the offense as the season progresses.

Woodley led the Thunder in passing after taking over for McCloud in the second half. Woodley was 10 for 17 passing with 148 yards and two touchdowns. McCloud’s shaky 2 for 10 passing effort in the first half was not enough to keep his team in the game early.

“Woodley had a good game” said Thunder Head Coach Leon Bright. “I threw Woodley into the fire tonight and he responded well.”
The Thunder’s performance has Bright talking about making some changes in his roster this week.

“I saw some things I didn’t like tonight”, he said. “I will definitely have to look into bringing in some new faces this week.”
