ESTERO, FL – Daytona Beach WR Patrick Rouzard had a strong debut game for the ThunderBirds catching seven passes for 67 yards but that was not enough as the ThunderBirds dropped a tough game to the Florida Firecats 41-15. The ThunderBirds went into the half down 13-6 and looking solid but just fell apart in the second half, surrendering 22 points in the second half. Matt Bohnet struggled a bit on the day completing 17 of 32 passes for 185 yards. Bohnet threw one touchdown but also had two costly interceptions for the ThunderBirds (2-8). Florida QB Chris Wallace had a solid game completing 19 of 33 passes for 185 yards and 4 touchdowns with two interceptions on the day for the Firecats (8-1). The story of the game was the penalty situation for Daytona Beach. While Florida had six penalties for 44 yards total, the ThunderBirds had 24 penalties for a whopping 181 yards. While most of the stats seemed to indicate a closer game, the penalties proved to be the difference in the ballgame. According to DB Bryant Tisdale “we need to win and in order to win we need to find a way to eliminate the penalties.” Another difficulty with the game was the offenses inability to move the ball. WR Patrick Rouzard said after the game “we came out and stopped them with the defense. Our offense needs work. We have to work hard on every play; work on our offense. We need to minimize our sacks.” The ThunderBirds next game will be against the South Georgia Wildcats on Saturday, June 7. The game starts at 7:30 PM and will be broadcast on Nifty TV as well as WROD 1340-AM in Daytona Beach. For more information, go to www.dbthunderbirds.com.
