DAYTONA BEACH, FL – New ThunderBirds QB Matt Bohnet played brilliantly in his first game with the team as he passed for 169 yards and one touchdown as the ThunderBirds gave up a fourth quarter lead and fell to the Tennessee Valley Vipers 48-32. Bohnet also ran for a score. The ThunderBirds lead the game at the half 22-21 and also lead after three quarters 29-28 but they were outscored 20-3 in the final quarter. The loss disappointed the crowd of 1,098 who showed up to watch the ThunderBirds third game under new Head Coach Gary Compton.

DAYTONA BEACH, FL – Despite a breakout performance by QB Scott Jeffries the Daytona Beach ThunderBirds lost a close contest with the South Georgia Wildcats 41-32. Jeffries passed for a season high 252 yards and two touchdowns. ThunderBirds WR Lamar Hughes also had a stellar performance catching eight passes for 99 yards for the ThunderBirds. DAYTONA BEACH, FL – The Daytona Beach Thunderbirds arenafootball2 (af2) team will introduce Gary Compton as their new Head Coach and Director of Football Operations in a press conference on Thursday, April 10 at 11 am. The press conference will be held at the WCEU public broadcasting station located at 1200 W. International Speedway Blvd. The conference will be held in the news studio.
Coach Compton comes to Daytona Beach with an impressive resume. Most recently, he served as Head Coach and Director of Football Operations for the af2’s Bakersfield Blitz from 2006-2007. DAYTONA BEACH, FL – The Daytona Beach ThunderBirds will hold their final open tryout on Saturday, March 1st at Jones High School 801 S. Rio Grande Ave. Orlando, Florida 32805. Registration will begin at 9:00 AM. There will be a $60 registration fee per player.
