By Taylor Holley DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Even though renewed with returned players, the Daytona Beach Thunder provided the same result as the opening game Monday night as the Thunder fell to the Columbus Lions 45-42.  The first score of the game came on a 19 yard pass from Andrew McKay to Jarwarski Pollock. This proved to be the lone score of the first quarter as a number of field goals were missed and an interception was thrown by McKay. The Thunder battled back to a 21-20 halftime lead, but that wasn’t enough to contain the Lions. To open the third quarter, Eugene Goodman ran a 54 yard kickoff back for a touchdown.  In response, Cory McKinney scored his third of four touchdowns on a four-yard pass from Bo Bartik. McKinney displayed some of the qualities he vowed that he would work on during the season. His explosion off the ball got him vital separation from defenders on top of 159 yards receiving. “I ran some different routes and I was able to get behind the defensive backs for easy touchdowns,” McKinney said. McKinney added his final touchdown with 3:09 remaining to give the Thunder their final lead of the game, 42-37. With the game on the line McKay lasered an eleven yard pass into the hands of Damian Daniels, for the win. With four seconds left, Carlos Ojeda had the chance to send the game to overtime with a field goal but the kick was blocked by a Lion defender. Despite the loss, Bo Bartik passed for 260 yards on 15 of 25 throws with 5 touchdowns and an interception.  Defensively, Javon Camon grabbed two interceptions that set up Thunder touchdowns.
