COLUMBUS,GA. -- The Daytona Beach Thunder came into tonight's contest having lost their two previous meetings to the Columbus Lions by a total of 10 points and feeling like they had something to prove.

However, it was not to be, as the Thunder dropped a 53-43 decision in front of 1,974 at AFLAC Field at the Columbus Civic Center.

"We played well enough to win tonight." said Thunder coach Leon Bright. "We just hurt ourselves with
too many mistakes."

Thunder starting quarterback Bo Bartik was injured on the first play from scrimmage after he was
tackled awkwardly by Columbus' Justin Rivers.

Bartik was replaced by Tavares Woodley who went 20-for-36 for five touchdowns and a World Indoor
Football League record 291 yards.

The pick, which came early in the second quarter, proved very costly giving the Lions an early two
touchdown lead.

"The interception ended our first good drive of the night, and resulted in a score. It put us in a hole
that we just weren't able to climb out of." Bright said.

Aside from Woodley, another bright spot offensively was Corey McKinney, who caught nine passes for 126 yards and four touchdowns.

Defensively the Thunder managed to hold the Lions to only 151 yards of total offense, far less than
their usual numbers.

"Our defensive front put good pressure on their quarterback," Bright said. "We forced him into some tough throws. It was as good a job as we've done all season, just not quite enough to win."

The Thunder are at home next Saturday against the Osceola Ghostriders. The first 500 mothers
will get in free.
