DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The Thunder came out with a mighty boom in the first half Monday but went out quietly in the second as the Columbus Lions posted a 37-28 victory before 2,195 at DBCC Public Broadcasting 15 Field at the Ocean Center.
With starter Bo Bartik sidelined after being in a car accident Sunday, Tavares Woodley got the start and 118 first-half yards to lead the Thunder to a 21-13 halftime advantage.
Columbus’ defense took over in the second half, forcing three turnovers and limiting Daytona Beach to one touchdown in the final two periods.
Woodley ended the game with 11 completed passes for 172 yards and two touchdowns while running for two more.
Columbus’ defense held Thunder WR Cory McKinney to season lows of 3 receptions for 71 yards and no touchdowns.
“It felt great to start at home but no one should feel good with a loss. Our motto for the season was finish strong and tonight we weren’t able to pull it out,” Woodley said.
The Thunder has two more regular season games and must win both for any chance at a playoff berth.
